Been a while since I've uploaded any new work on here. I've been busy with several illustration commissions, a brief holiday to Scotland, and I'm currently putting together the third edition of Solipsistic Pop so it may be another month before I get around to throwing the backlog online. Most of the work is awaiting publication too so I can't blog about it yet. Watch this space though - lots of exciting news coming up! In the meantime, I couldn't resist this little meme that John Allison tweeted about the other day. A few other comic artists have created their own Influence Maps as well (including SP contributers Adam Cadwell and Lizz Lunney).
Quite a fun exercise - although I really should get back to work...
I found it interesting that my instinct was to list writers, comedians, film-makers, designers and animators before even thinking about comic artists. Influences and inspiration come from so many different areas and shift constantly so this is a very brief, succinct, and unfair list of influences that shaped the way I want to tell stories, the kind of stories I want to tell, and the way in which I want to present them.
Obviously lots of people I haven't/should've included but these were my immediate thoughts:
