I moved into a new studio recently. With going fulltime freelance and spending every spare moment I have on Ellipsis, it seemed like a good idea to separate my living and working environments properly. Luckily, the lovely and extremely talented illustrator Linzie Hunter was also looking for a studio to share so we began looking around... We ended up settling on a fantastic space at Second Floor studios in Woolwich. The area is a good two-chapters-of-a-book bus ride away for me - which is perfect really - and there's very little else in the area which is a great way of cutting out distractions. There's also on-site screenprinting and letterpress facilities and all sorts of exciting new buildings and plans in store for the year ahead. There were some open studios last week but if you missed it, there will be another chance to come by and say hello in November.
In the meantime, here are some low quality phone photos of the space that I took this morning. I've moved all my stuff and have managed to spend a weekend settling in, but I've been too busy to decorate it much - lots of prints waiting for frames and wallspace... but nonetheless...
This is me standing in the empty studio (about a month ago) and the front door with all our business cards plastered next to it:
A little bookshelf display of our work as you enter... and a couch for visitors/guests!...
A nice little reading area for guests to peruse our work or the million comics I've managed to bring. Plus my working area - as mentioned before, it's pretty bare but I'll hopefully fill the area with more inspirational prints and artwork soon. In the background you might be able to see some Ellipsis pages:
Here's Linzie's much more settled in space and the view from my desk looking back towards the entrance.
And there it is. Actual illustrations and comics and things on the way soon!
